Killing a sportster in under 90 days
There is definitely a trajectory to most motorcyclist's and the machines they ride. For most of us over the age of 30, it usually begins early with dirt bikes and for most it was sport bikes at some point and inevitably, just as your body no longer can handle the fetal postion whilst strattling something as wide as yourself, it seems, almost like a bear knows when its time to gorge on salmon one last time and head to hibernate, a man in his 40's seemingly cant avoid owning a Harley.
If you know me personally, you know that in the 36 yrs since I first swung my leg over my first dirtbike, I have been somewhere between uninterested and full on vehemently anti Harley-Davidson since day one. This along with my love of motorcycles in total comes directly from my dad who unlike most, has owned no less than 150 motorcycles, had absolutely no interest in them and by proxy neither did I. That changed sometime last summer when I started my Motorcycle detailing business and realized no matter how clean my 06 FZ01 could be, my target market, older guys who roode Harley werent going to see me let alone speak to me as easily on a chance encounter. So I made the toughest decision Id made in quite some time, traded the 140mph Yamaha in for a 56hp slug....
The bike being an 05 XL1200 C was shipped with those awful forward controls which means the exhaust it was fitted with, wouldnt work with mid controls so I made the choice to destroy the exhaust and wait on a replacement rather then ride another mile with the forwards. I ended up cutting bracket and cat then wrapping the head pipe which held me over till the exhaust I ordered arrived.
Addded some tiny turn signals and a new tail light.
Added a new air cleaner and the new exhaust
